Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?” He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” -Genesis 18:32
Abraham knew God was merciful; he had experienced it himself. When God revealed his plans to destroy two cities, Abraham pleaded for a similar mercy. Not only were a lot of lives at stake; his nephew Lot and his family were among them.
By the end of his discussion with God, he was promised that if ten righteous people could be found, the cities would not be destroyed. Abraham thought for sure there would at least be ten people. Chapter 19 reveals a surprise.
But the point in this section is that the godly actions of a few can improve the lives of many. How many godly people must remain in a family, a community, or a nation before God decides to remove his favor? We are not given a number, but even a few are enough to make a difference. Be one of those few today.
