Genesis 29: Providence

Genesis 29: Providence 2012-02-09T10:38:59-05:00

4 Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?”

“We’re from Harran,” they replied.

5 He said to them, “Do you know Laban, Nahor’s grandson?”

“Yes, we know him,” they answered.

6 Then Jacob asked them, “Is he well?”

“Yes, he is,” they said, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with the sheep.” -Genesis 29:4-6

Sometimes life seems random. At other times, we clearly see the hand of God. When Jacob left home for his mother’s hometown, the first people he met were from his family. Random? No way. God directed his path, fulfilling the promises Jacob had been given in his recent dream (Gen. 28).

Life might appear like it lacks purpose at times, but God’s providential hand is at work in the myriad details of our day. When we pause to realize it, we find ourselves responding in worship–the exact reply God desires from us each day.
