Exodus 33: God’s Presence

Exodus 33: God’s Presence 2012-04-25T09:36:44-04:00

The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” -Exodus 33:14

Scripture equates God’s presence with rest. If God is with us, we are at peace. We find rest.

So why do we often find ourselves restless, tired, or discouraged?

There are a variety of reasons. Like the Israelites, we sometimes find ourselves craving other things because we have turned against God’s plan for our lives.

Another reason we lack rest is because we do not look for God’s presence in our lives. We seek to answer our problems in our own power, turning to God only when all else fails.

Yet we are doomed to fail from the start without God.

We can know God, yet feel far from him at times. When this occurs, our best response is to seek his presence. When we draw near to him, Scripture promises he will draw near to us.

Feel distant from God today? Draw near. Seek him. He tends to reveal himself to those who search for him–and his rest.
