Leviticus 20: Set Apart

Leviticus 20: Set Apart

“You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.” -Leviticus 20:26

The reason for God’s many laws in Leviticus is clearly given in Leviticus 20:26: “You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.” Israel was to be set apart form the nations. They were to live holy, reflecting the holiness of God.

The goal was never to make life miserable or to punish, but to cause Israel to be set apart from others who did not follow God.

Today, many Christians just want to fit in with everyone else. There is pressure to stay relevant, to not rock the boat, and focus on what unites rather than what divides.

However, Christ’s love calls us to live differently from others, not the same as others. It is only when we live for him that our lives become “salt and light” to the dark world around us. Only by seeing his light in us do others realize their need to come to the light themselves.

Don’t settle for fitting in. Live set apart.
