Leviticus 26: Peace Comes from God

“I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.” -Leviticus 26:6

Only God can give peace. Our human nature stands bent on conflict, conquest, and cravings that involve everything but peace. Yet God’s blessing can allow us to “lie down and no one will make you afraid.”

When we say “God bless America” it may be this type of blessing we really have in mind. We really want to just go to bed at night without fear for our lives. We want to live freely without someone hurting us. Yet we forget that this peace is God-given, not man-made. No matter how hard we strive, we will always live in fear unless God intervenes.

The answer to our nation’s fears is not a leader, but the Lord. He alone offers peace, both now and evermore.
