“…everything so devoted is most holy to the Lord.” -Leviticus 27:28
The final chapter of Leviticus discusses procedures for devoting items to the Lord. This included animals, fields, homes, and even people. The book’s words near their conclusion with the phrase, “…everything so devoted is most holy to the Lord.”
When some thing or some person is devoted to the Lord, it is consider set apart or most holy. There is no thought of taking what is devoted and using it for a sinful activity that would dishonor God. When we reflect on this concept, we find much insight for today.
Many times, we speak of devoting our lives to God, what the apostle Paul called our “spiritual act of worship” (Romans 12:1-2). Yet we often fail to realize the magnitude of such a commitment. When we devote our life to God, it becomes most holy. We dare not take a life devoted to God and use it for selfish gain, immoral activities, and personal satisfaction. We live for something greater–God’s glory–and for someone greater–God himself.
Our commitment to Christ is not about simply living a better life or attending church faithfully each weekend. Rather, it’s about a life that pursues God’s desires, and his alone, all the days of our life.
