Numbers 6: The Lord Bless You

Numbers 6: The Lord Bless You

22 The Lord said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

24 “‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace. ”’

27 “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” -Numbers 6:22-27

Many churches today continue to end their services with the leader reciting the priestly blessing from Numbers 6. Why? It’s words abound with blessing. In three verses we hear:

“The Lord” mentioned three times as the one who blesses us.

The Lord will “bless and keep” us.

The Lord will make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us.

The Lord will turn his face toward us and give us peace.

All three stanzas speak the same message with different words. God will bless his people and protect them. Once again, we discover another great benefit of being one of God’s people–he will bless and protect those he loves, offering peace in our lives now as well as eternal peace with him in the next life.
