“When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it and all its furnishings. He also anointed and consecrated the altar and all its utensils.” -Numbers 7:1
The tabernacle was not holy because of its parts; it was holy because of God’s presence. Moses obeyed the Lord’s command to anoint and consecrate the tabernacle and it parts because this action showed to all that God’s presence was among them. This place was holy.
What we would see as a tent, God and his people recognized as a tabernacle set apart for times of worship. We may not understand it, but we can recognize the importance of this distinction.
Yet today we live in an era in which God’s presence is available in the life of every person who comes to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. His Spirit now dwells in us rather than just a building. We are set apart as holy; our life is no longer our own. As a result, how we live each moment of each day matters greatly. We are called to live our lives devoted to him as our spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1-2).
