Numbers 14: Follow God Wholeheartedly

But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. -Numbers 14:24

In the midst of tragedy, Caleb stood out as a hero. Why? He had what the Bible calls “a different spirit” or attitude. He followed God wholeheartedly.

What does it mean to follow God wholeheartedly? It’s clear to follow the Lord wholeheartedly included two key component: Caleb trusted God and he refused to rebel against Him.

These two traits continue to cause people to stand out from the crowd. When we trust God despite evidence to the contrary, we will stand out. Others will doubt, complain, and make excuses. But if you continue to trust God when times are tough, others will notice. And so will God.

Second, Caleb refused to rebel against the Lord. When times are tough, it is said the tough get tougher. Biblically speaking, when times are tough, the tough stand firm. We may not have the strength to move forward when life is falling apart, but we know God has led us to our current destination and refuse to retreat.

Today, trust God, even it doesn’t make sense. Refuse to retreat when others do. Follow God wholeheartedly.
