“The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.” -Numbers 17:5
Let’s face it: It’s easy to envy those in leadership. We want to be as good as or better than the guy with the bigger business, larger church, or more fans. The same was true in the time of Moses and Aaron.
Some of the other leaders were ready to take over and prove themselves “just as good” or “better than” their God-appointed leaders. But they failed to realize an important point–spiritual leaders are chosen by God, not created by people.
The Lord proved his point through a walking stick–actually a bunch of walking sticks. The whole group was to bring their staffs and place them before the Lord. The one that budded was the one chosen by God.
You can guess what happened. Aaron’s staff budded and the others didn’t. But we don’t need a stick to realize God picks the leaders instead of us. What we need is this Scripture to remind us of this principle.
Today, let’s stop competing with other godly leaders for top place. Let’s seek the Lord, follow his call for our lives, and remember that the Lord chooses.
Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
