Numbers 20: Honor God As Holy

Numbers 20: Honor God As Holy 2012-07-10T10:41:13-04:00

But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” -Numbers 20:12

Moses and Aaron were the top leaders of the nation. They had led Israel from slavery, through the Red Sea, and had offered numerous miracles along the way, including a time when they provided water from a rock.

But was it really because of their goodness or strength? Of course not! Moses was an escaped felon herding sheep in the next country and turned down God’s first attempts to be Israel’s leader. It was because of God’s strength that Israel had escaped.

Moses neglected this truth when following God’s command to give the people water from a rock. Instead of pointing the glory to God, he took the credit himself.

God’s response? There was a consequence and it was a bad one. The guys leading the nation to the promised land would miss out on the promised land.

Are we missing out on something good God has in store for our lives because we take credit that belongs to him? Today, remember that your strength is not really your strength; it is from the Lord. Honor God as holy.
