36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels. -Exodus 40:36-38
Exodus concludes with an insightful narrative. The people of Israel only moved when God did. When his cloud stayed in place, they did. When he moved, they moved.
This detail appears mundane, but it’s not. It’s telling us something.
Those who follow God move when God moves. Not before, not after. When.
How do we know when God moves? We must keep our eyes on him. We can’t focus on self or lesser gods of this world and still see the cloud moving. We must focus. Scripture promises he will draw near to those who draw near to him. That’s his promise. Draw near. Then move. Move when God moves.
