1 Corinthians 2: A Simply Powerful Message

1 Corinthians 2: A Simply Powerful Message

1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Paul held the equivalent of a PhD in religion for his time. He knew the right words to speak and to write to effectively communicate his point. However, once he had experienced Jesus, the “right” words seemed far inadequate. Instead, his message was Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Many have shared with me over the years how inadequate they have felt to share their faith in Jesus with others. They did not feel prepared enough, educated enough, or smart enough for the task. This is a faulty point of view. It is not about your level of education; it is about Jesus. When we speak of Jesus and him crucified, God’s Spirit does its work to change the human heart.

Education is of great importance, but the message of Jesus is a simply powerful message. We are called to share it and to live it among those still seeking hope for their own lives today.
