“For we live by faith, not by sight.” -2 Corinthians 5:7
These eight words summarize Christianity. Christians live a life based on unseen realities that beyond normal human understanding. Jesus, heaven, angels, the Holy Spirit, Satan, demons, hell. None of these are typically seen by the eyes, but are each accepted as real and important.
Many believe in a god of some kind or accept the supernatural; few truly live by faith. Faith not only accepts a God we can sense yet not see, but lives life accordingly. We do not fear death, because we know that Jesus has a place for us with him in the afterlife. We pray because we know God hears and responds. We worship because we know it pleases our Father above.
How often we forget! Dishes, bills, work, school, kids, relationships, health, grief, and so much more turn our heads from the unseen to today’s concerns. Some have said we must live with one foot in this world and one foot in heaven. They’re only half right. We are called to life in this world, not of it. We are called to live by faith, not by sight.
Let us live this day focused on the unseen reality of Christ, who is truly our life now and forever.
