2 Corinthians 7: Be Comforted

2 Corinthians 7: Be Comforted

“But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us…” -2 Corinthians 7:6

I find it refreshing that the God who comforts the downcast comforted Paul. As a leader in the early church, Paul considered himself in need of God’s help every step of the journey. Even after writing several letters of the New Testament, performing miracles, and starting churches, his attention remained on God rather than fame or fortune.

We don’t see Paul as a laid back guy content with a day at the beach; yet he needed comfort as much as anyone. So do we. Its telling that some of most popular words in the Bible are, “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul” (Psalm 23:1-3). Regardless of who we are and what we have accomplished, we each desire comfort–a peace found only in God.

Today, remember that God is there to comfort you. Not those you serve, your family, or others in need, but you. Accept his comfort. Pause to enjoy his peace. Be comforted.
