Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” -Genesis 3:13
Genesis begins with God, continues with people, then a serpent, then sin. The world has never been the same. God made a world he called “good,” and created Adam and Eve in his own image. But something went wrong. Very wrong.
Adam and Eve were given one rule. They broke it. Then they blamed a snake. But this was no ordinary snake. It talked. It knew how to lie. Later on, we discover this serpent was Satan. For now, we simply realize the Garden party is over. Sin had come. Angels block the gates of Eden. The curse had entered the world.
As a result, we each have continued the tradition of imperfect living, standing in need of a Redeemer. God’s perfect redemptive plan would one day include the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Some find a hint of him even in this chapter (3:15). Regardless, this becomes the point in human history in which a Savior is needed.
May we not hide from God as Adam and Eve did. Let us instead embrace the Messiah, the One who offers power over sin and death, including joy in this life and eternity with God in the future.
