“Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.” -Genesis 7:5
Noah stands out in two key ways in chapter seven. First, he obeyed. Second, he obeyed fully. Both are noted as important in Scripture.
Many people obey God for a season. Even Judas followed Jesus for three years. Yet not many obey fully. Because Noah did, we are told God saved his family and many animals. What if Noah had left the giraffes? What if Noah had sent Shem to run an errand? His experience (and ours) would have been much different.
We can take many lessons from the account of Noah and the Flood, but the emphasis in the Scripture itself includes a clear statement about the importance of full obedience to God. It sounds simply, but we all know it is not. In the ancient world, only Noah and his family were selected. Still today, the number who fully obey God is few.
Our challenge is be among these few. God still seeks those he will rescue and use to do his will. May we be among those he selects today.
