Exodus 24: The Call to Obedience

Exodus 24: The Call to Obedience 2012-04-12T10:42:45-04:00

3 When Moses went and told the people all the LORD’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.” 4 Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said. -Exodus 24:3-4

Obedience is often neither fun nor easy. That has never been the goal. Obedience is about following the way of God.

Moses was directly given God’s revelation in the wilderness. When he returned to his people, they promised to do all the Lord had said. Moses even wrote it down in a book.

Did they obey? History records they did not. We don’t either. As noble as our intentions may be, our actions are imperfect and often fail.

The solution? Obedience is not about living the right way but rather knowing the Way–Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 is still the best answer to this dilemma. Our salvation, our right standing with God, is not based on what we do but on what Christ has done. By grace through faith we experience his power in our lives, a power that helps us live for God today and live with him for eternity.
