A composer never knows how listeners will react to his/her compositions. Often it’s the work least regarded by the composer that achieves international success. Compositions must move listeners and when they are moved deeply, international success can follow.
This happened with my “Ave Verum” which is sung all over the world and featured on many CDs. I wrote it in a day for the wedding of two close friends and never dreamed that it would earn international acclaim. I was fortunate that it was recorded by the choir of Westminster Cathedral under James O’Donnell. It was this that brought the work to the attention of so many choirs and choirmasters. I am amazed at its success and thank God for His inspiration.
