A Good Example Of Being On The Offense

A Good Example Of Being On The Offense

“My center is giving way, my right is retreating, situation excellent, I am attacking.” – Ferdinand Foch

One point I often make is that Christians cannot think of themselves as on the defensive, or losing any kind of “culture” wars, since the Church, as an Army, is assured of the help of the Holy Spirit and of final victory. We need to think of ourselves as conquerors, just as Christ conquered sin and death.

Whenever I use the word “feminism” I often get a barrage of comments from conservative Christians who are perplexed that I would associate myself with such a label given that in their view so many who use it have discredited themselves and rendered the label unusable by association. But it always seems so short-sighted to me to concede fertile terrain.

Well, here’s a suggestion: next time you want to write about the latest horror propagated by “the feminists” here’s what you should do instead: call them “the Old Feminists.” After all, it was John Paul II who called for a “New Feminism” and it’s about time we paid attention. The Old Feminists are the past. Of course they’re doing silly things. They’re the Old Feminists. Now the New Feminists are in town.

This is the kind of reflexes that I wish we had. It’s very small, and it’s spin, but it is accumulations of things like this that change the culture–and changing the culture changes souls.
