Yeah, very rarely, I travel on business. In this case, it was an internal team meeting in New York, and I didn’t get out much, only during a few short breaks.
So:
The 9/11 Memorial. I have to say, I was surprised at how small the footprint was.
The Trinity Church cemetery.
And, nearby, Wall Street itself.
though it’s hard to get a good picture of the NYSE on an ordinary camera, what with the fact that it’s not a particularly wide street.
I had planned to write something extended about cemeteries and memorials — the fact that these tombstones will be there, theoretically, in perpetuity, long after anyone knows who any of these people are (and, after all, most of the tombstones were no longer legible), and, in the same way, the fact that we build our memorials with attention to naming the specific individuals. I do wonder how these memorials will be perceived generations from now, or whether our descendents will even get peeved with the space taken up by burial plots and memorials from so long ago there’s no emotion connected to them any longer.
But now I have to get back to work, so I’ll leave the commentary to the commenters.
