We welcome our General Superintendent, Doug Shoemaker. He is retiring at the end of the year as the leader of Indiana Yearly Meeting (IYM). He is going to be returning to his first congregation as Pastor. Historically, we have had some Pastors from Long Lake Friends Church (LLFC) who have come and gone, and then come back again to Pastor for a second term. So it’s wonderful for Superintendent Doug that he is able to go back to his first charge, minister as Pastor, and enjoy a place where he and his wife served together in their early years.*

Superintendent Shoemaker’s key Scripture
The Words of our Lord Jesus
Matthew 9.16-17 (NIV)
“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Superintendent Shoemaker delivers a timely and powerful Word. He also recounts some key historical snapshots of the Friends in action that mirror these Words of Christ. In effect, he also develops a view of Spirit-led ministry (praxis informed by Pneumatology).
A simple article cannot replace the thoughtfulness and delivery of his message. Please consider taking less that 25 minutes to watch.
I was looking forward to his message. In advance I held to the hope that his ministry would affect the trajectory of my sermons and studies, and it already has this week. I look forward to ministering the Word tomorrow!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
