Can you give a personal example of battling spiritual warfare?+
I can remember one lady, sitting close to the front, worshiping the Lord. Everyone was worshiping the Lord in service, and sometimes Pentecostal-Charismatics get loud.
Well she got loud. Her hands were raised….
but something didn’t feel right…. and sure enough, after service one nite, I was praying with different ones down by the altar. I had already felt a call to ministry….
and some people were actually over praying for her, and had her praying in a corner.
It wasn’t just anybody. It was some of our top leaders in that region of the country, and they had cleared everyone else out.
By the time I got up from my prayer time, praying for people, and then praying on my own….
I realized what was going on. They were casting a devil out of this person, some sort of spirit. I joined with them, but I didn’t feel like joining with the affects of praying and commanding.
The Lord just led me to a particular Scripture. I just asked if I could join so I would be under the authority of the person that was leading. I asked if I could do this particular thing that I felt led to do, to read a portion of Scripture….
and I just began reading it over and over again. It began to change things a little. There was a point where I did speak and there was silence after that for awhile.
However, there was a lot of noise….
but that nite that young lady was delivered.
+It’s all personal, and it’s all not….
I do not know the young lady in this piece at all, and never was around her anytime outside of the sanctuary. However, in my other life as a marriage and family therapist intern, I am cross-trained. I usually keep the relationship between the client and the therapist at bay, and that’s the way I usually conduct a class as well. I seldom self-disclose, so writing/talking about an experience is sometimes difficult….
However, the old questions keep resurfacing over and over. I feel like I’m teaching the same class, answering the same old questions….
I’ve been a badge-carrying minister since 1993, although this incident precedes that time. I may have just been an independent thinker under a Christian authority over the whole west coast.
