make room | it’s metaphysics, not physics

make room | it’s metaphysics, not physics March 8, 2022

May my prayers be in line with how God wants to “make room” for me in this new season…

Now, there is a resurgence of Gospel

I‘ve been trying to intentionally discover new music. I’ve worshipped on my own under the anointing, because these praise teams aren’t fake…
and I’m hearing it in a wide range of worship genres. I’ve even spent my time crying, moved by the experiences.

Of course nothing beats finding a home church, and realizing they’re making room for me. It’s like settling in somewhere after a move. So these are related thoughts this morning.

I’ve applied for jobs in Roanoke

I will continue to look, especially since I am wrapping up a publication.

Are there any positions in higher education with housing included?

I don’t know other than community development positions. Evangel University used to be completely residential, offering housing for many staff and faculty on campus if needed. I know a lot about Seattle Pacific University, and they had housing options available as well. They are Free Methodist like Spring Arbor University and Azuza Pacific University.

Here, I don’t know about Roanoke College, but I think Virginia Western may be all commuters. I don’t think they have any residential buildings, but they have added six buildings in recent years. They also offer a lot of religion courses, and Christian religion courses, so adjunct work is a possibility…
if I can keep from burning the candle at both ends.

Does the church have a parsonage, or a rectory? Am I saying that right?

The unfortunate thing about applying for church positions is that they are not often listed on the church’s website, so they are usually spread word of mouth. Because they are not listed, the benefits are not listed as well, including benefits like housing.

There are other problems to consider in some areas, like a tendency for church splits. A family gets mad and leaves, starts a home church in their basement, and then later they have a building, and everyone is wondering where they got all their money.

“There’s a church on every corner.” That’s the saying in Lynchburg, and it’s the truth!

From the morning read:

Through wisdom is an house builded;
and by understanding is it established:
Proverbs xxi.3; KJV

Dante, Paradiso, Canto 2: It’s a scientific discussion about the moon, stars, the sun, and celestial bodies. Ultimately, the conclusion is that if you are not a Christian, you probably won’t accept the idea that Theology guides the physical universe, not the other way around.

It’s metaphysics, not physics.

So Dante teaches that celestial bodies (stars) can house angels and eternal beings, including everything we see of them, light and dark.

In Revelation xix.17, John writes: And I saw an angel standing in the sun…

As I search for work, and consider my vocation during Lent, may my prayers be in line with how God wants to “make room” for me in this new season, in community, in the church, in housing, etc.
