I have certainly been impressed with my Dad’s (Rev. Vernell Ingle’s) knowledge of C.S. Lewis, and his vocal dramatizations when reading.  However, to be honest, when I saw that he had read 13 books prior to this paper, I began to understand his unique ability to speak about Lewis and his faith in Jesus Christ. Because he was preparing for this paper, he reread 2 of the books and read another 3.  I am honored that he would share this... Read more

We’re in the middle of a series on C.S. Lewis, who wrote extensively.[1]  However, in the grand scheme of things we must remember that some will only know him as the writer who created Narnia and its characters, such as Aslan.  In this a/v post and the next, I’ll have the opportunity to share the story with my oldest son Mateo.  His personal connections with Narnia center on a couple of stories of Aslan. Crystal Ingle | Mateo, Great Smoky... Read more

Now we turn our attention to the centerpiece of the Narnia series, The Stone Table. We’re continuing this unique series on C.S. Lewis, birthed out of some seminary research by Rev. Vernell Ingle, Faculty Chair at Messenger College. Most importantly, he has read C.S. Lewis books to us children and his grandchildren over the years, truly making them part of our tribal spiritual formation, if you will. Each week, we’re offering a writing and some type of audio/visual piece that... Read more

We’re right in the middle of the series on C.S. Lewis.[1]  Instead of posting an audio podcast, I thought I would speculate a little bit about Lewis and psychology, specifically language acquisition. I’ll start with child development theory because apparently Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien both studied how to approach writings for children.  In fact, they both took a hit and received a little criticism for writing children’s books like The Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia.[2]  However, they were a success.  They... Read more

First of all, we’re in a series on the works of C.S. Lewis.  So catch up![1]  Secondly, in this portion of the series, Vernell Ingle explores postmodernism as forecasted by C.S. Lewis. Actually, postmodernism grew out of French Philosophy in the late 1800’s, however it seems like Lewis captures and predicts its early effects on society. Natural versus Supernatural (continued) One point that Lewis made about miracles was that the miracles recorded in Scripture, and miracles that take place today,... Read more

We’re running a parallel track in these videos with the C.S. Lewis series.  He’s is talking about the supernatural versus the natural at this particular point in the writings. Lewis also talks about a proof for miracles.  He goes into the depths of philosophy.  I certainly can’t do all of that.  However, I do try to take us back to the Early Church, not just the book of Acts, but also a couple of hundred years after Acts.  I’ll show... Read more

We continue our series on C.S. Lewis by Prof. Vernell Ingle, Faculty Chair at Messenger College (and Dad).[1] This is part of some seminary research Vernell did on key works of C.S. Lewis. This particular post focuses on his salvation experience and on his first Christian philosophical work Miracles: A Preliminary Study. Search for Joy (continued) Christianity offered no doors of escape. The externals of Christianity did not appeal to him [C.S. Lewis]. The reason being that he admitted to possessing... Read more

I’m going to share a little bit about the history in the Gospels.  We’re right in the middle of a writing series on C.S. Lewis.[1]  One of the things that brought C.S. Lewis around from being an atheist was understanding the Bible is really good history, not just good mythology.  He understood ancient myths, but when he looked at the Bible historically, it was one of the factors that changed his life. So as you read or listen to this... Read more

Once again, we enter into the realm of C.S. Lewis, as Vernell Ingle (Dad) reflects on his works.  He read the Chronicles of Narnia out loud to my siblings and I when we were young.  Furthermore, he developed voices for each character, a dizzying talent.  So his readings were fascinating.  As a grandpa, he now carries on the tradition with his grandchildren. This is the third in a series about C.S. Lewis First of all, I wrote a couple weeks... Read more

This is a shorter post on the recent working vacation with the commission at Pigeon Forge.  The media may just speak for itself. I am not a world traveler However, I am thankful for the 3D experience on iMaps, so I can at least virtually explore large metros around the globe. That being said, it naturally follows that I have neither explored ancient Near Eastern sites nor the Holy Land, unless . . . you’re among the segment of the... Read more
