Denton is tied with Houston as having the worst air quality in Texas. Tonight, I sat through a Denton City Council meeting during the course of which I heard citizen after citizen speak about physical ailments caused by poor local air quality. The cause of the pollution is no mystery…there is drilling or fracking all over the city. The top agenda item at the Denton City Council meeting tonight was about a 30-day pause in new drilling. This sounds ok at first hearing…but the problem is it does nothing to alleviate the suffering of those who already have these drills so close to their houses or the rest of us who have to keep breathing this horrible air. Most of us in the room wanted a moratorium on all drilling in the City of Denton. We didn’t get it. We got a 30-day pause that means nothing and will probably be ignored by the drilling companies. Denton is tied with Houston as having the worst air quality in Texas. air: who needs it anyway?
