North Texas Fellowship of Reconciliation: a word and prayer for our beginning

North Texas Fellowship of Reconciliation: a word and prayer for our beginning

In the folk religion of Japan, it is often the case that the stranger to the village brings truth, love and divinity.  The stranger the village is often suspicious of brings life changing surprises and revelations.  And so it is, on this day we gather in a strange place to seek to accomplish strange feats desperately desiring to be guided by that still small voice of the stranger.  In this moment, may we not be afraid to listen to the voices of the strangers in our midst.  May we not be afraid to follow the voice of the stranger leading us to strange places.  May we not turn back when the voice of the stranger calls us to do strange things.  Let us follow the stranger.  In the founding of the North Texas Fellowship of Reconciliation, may we be known as strangers that are bold in our commitment to love and justice.  In a world of violence and oppression, let us listen to and follow the stranger as we become strangers in the midst of the strange people we are called to be.

Amen.
