The Execution Intervention Project: On the Cost of Defiance

Sensational headlines don’t lead to deeper truths.  Most of the time, they simply lead you far away from both the human and divine. If you want to know the truth, you’ve got to come close.  This is an invitation.

The Execution Intervention Project is about bringing people close.  I want people to know the cost of the death penalty, so that they might understand the cost of fighting it.  For decades, I’ve financed and done this work alone.  Recently, I realized that my determination to continue with such solitary efforts was very selfish and counterproductive to the folks on death row that I serve.  I guess you could say that I got redeemed from all that and want to provide everybody that I work with as much spiritual support and advocacy as I possibly can.

There is no one better to partner with me in these efforts than our Executive Director, Hélène Noa Dubois.  Together, we created a dynamic campaign for her husband Steven Nelson, just a few months ago.  Unfortunately, the machinations of death were too strong.  But God granted me the enormous privilege of accompanying them through those most perilous hours.  I can assure you…Dubois deeply understands the high cost of the death penalty.

The bottom line is very simple.  We need your help to shoulder the cost.  For The Execution Intervention Project to continue offering interpersonal support, public theology, prophetic activism, and ministry accompaniment to the most vulnerable members of our society we need partners.  So, whether your contribution is following the Facebook page, checking on the website and signing up for the newsletter or blessing us with a reoccurring donation or some combination of it all, we need you.  I refuse to believe that there is any cost that love cannot overcome.
