The Start: A Faithful Pilgrimage to Abolish the Death Penalty

This morning we are gathered here in Dallas as a faith community to express our frustration at Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.  We have grown tired of hearing about his moral opposition to the death penalty.  When people are being sentenced to death and executed…moral opposition to the death penalty is not enough.  We do not want to see one more death sentence come from Dallas County or anywhere else in Texas for that matter.  The Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty is united with hundreds of faith leaders and thousands of Texans in the pursuit of this goal.  Wes, Lynn and I began this walk today to Fort Worth to draw attention to that timeless message of loving your neighbor as your self and knowing that there are so many people around the state and nation who walk with us in spirit.  We invite all people of goodwill to join us in this cause and loudly proclaim that you cannot love your neighbor as your self or claim to stand for life while pursuing and carrying out sentences of death.  We pray that Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins will stop the killing that begins in his office…but make no mistake we are going to keep walking and working for abolishment until he and everyone else who is a part of the execution machine does.
