FOUR FOUNDATIONS OF MARRIAGE

1. COMMITMENT – Marriage teaches me to build INTEGRITY

Let love be genuine
(Romans 12:9 ESV)

Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them…
(Romans 12:9 NLT)

That’s why a man will leave his father and mother and will remain united with his wife, and the two will be one. So they are no longer two but one. Therefore, don’t let anyone separate what God has joined together.”
(Mark 10:7-9 GW)

What you tell YOURSELF

2. COMPANIONSHIP – Marriage teaches me to build COMMUNITY

[Be] warmly devoted to one another with brotherly love, giving preference to one another in honor,
(Romans 12:10 ALT)

Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.
(Romans 12:10 MSG)

What you tell YOUR SPOUSE

3. CONTRACT – Marriage teaches me to build RESPONSIBILITY

rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;
(Romans 12:12 NKJV)

Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful.
(Romans 12:12 NLT)

Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse,
With me from Lebanon.
Look from the top of Amana,
From the top of Senir and Hermon,
From the lions’ dens,
From the mountains of the leopards.
(Song of Solomon 4:8 NKJV)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
(Ephesians 5:25-26 NKJV)

What you tell THE WORLD

4. COVENANT – Marriage teaches me to build SPIRITUAL UNITY

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
(Romans 12:11 NIV)

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master,
(Romans 12:11 MSG)

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
(Romans 12:16 NKJV)
