Lenten Reflection #13: Jesus Drives

Lenten Reflection #13: Jesus Drives March 31, 2014

and He healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew Him.” (Mark 1:34, HCSB)

After making a whip out of cords, He drove everyone out of the temple complex with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the money changers’ coins and overturned the tables.” (John 2:15, HCSB)

If Jesus drove a car, it might be a Honda Accord. However, you probably realize that I don’t mean that Jesus drives a car. Instead, He was in the business of driving things out. He never drove things in, but drove things out. There are only two groups Jesus drives out: (1) demons, and (2) money handlers. When Jesus drives, He drives these two groups out of town. Why is it important to know what Jesus drives? Because I don’t want to be in front when Jesus gets “behind the wheel” to drive me out.

On the other hand, when we come to Him, Jesus will never drive us out.

“Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out.” (John 6:37, HCSB)

The question is not what Jesus drives, but where we are when He is driving? Is he driving me out because of disobedience, or am I ready for Jesus to take the wheel and drive my life?
