Since I Am Forgiven, I Am Free

Since I Am Forgiven, I Am Free

March 25, 2016 Year C (Good Friday)

Hebrews 10:16-25

Good Friday is good because Jesus died on the cross. It is good because His death on the cross paid my sin debt. It is good because paying my sin debt forgives me of my debt to God.

Since I have been forgiven, I am free. I am free to do other things. I don’t have to continually spend all of my time trying to determine how I am going to pay a debt I owe. Instead, I have a new relationship with God – one in which He doesn’t remember my debts to Him (Hebrews 10:16-17).

Since I have been forgiven, I am free from my obligations and am free to give (Hebrews 10:18). Jesus and His death on the cross gives me the freedom from the burdens I would have to perform in order to get the forgiveness I seek and need (Hebrews 10:19-21). As a result of Jesus’ forgiving and saving work on the cross, I am free to give other things.

What am I free to give?

  1. I am free to give prayer (Hebrews 10:22).
  2. I am free to give hope (Hebrews 10:23).
  3. I am free to give help (Hebrews 10:24).
  4. I am free to give worship (Hebrews 10:25).

My freedom that Christ gives me is for Him. Jesus did not make me free to go further away from Him. He died on the cross so that I may be free to serve Him. Good Friday is good for me because it gives me freedom. Good Friday is good for Jesus because it gives me the freedom to serve Him.

Prayer: God, thank You for the freedom I have because of Good Friday and Jesus’ death on the cross. Since I have been forgiven, I am free to serve You. Thank You for that privilege.
