“since you seek proof of Christ speaking in me. He is not weak toward you, but powerful among you. In fact, He was crucified in weakness, but He lives by God’s power. For we also are weak in Him, yet toward you we will live with Him by God’s power.” (2 Corinthians 13:3–4, HCSB)
Jesus weakens His servants so that we reveal may His strength to others.
Jesus uses weak people. Jesus uses weak people because He went through the most weakening experience – the cross. He went to the cross not as a superhero, but as Someone who was in His human nature very weak. He was beaten, scourged, and then crucified. He was weakened. He then took on the sin of all humanity that weakened Him to the point of death. That death payment was Jesus at His weakest point on Earth. Then God honored that sacrifice and raised His Son from the dead. Now every Christian can look to Jesus and receive strength.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15, HCSB)
Now, Jesus weakens His servants (and uses the weakness of His servants) to help strengthen others. Jesus doesn’t use strong people to get His will done. He uses weak people. He uses the disabled, the poor, the uncomfortable, the uninspiring to help others.
