Heaven Bound by S. Tucker Yates

Heaven Bound by S. Tucker Yates, is defined by its subtitle: An Incredible Journey to the Perfect Destination. Yates takes the time to describe salvation as not just a one-time decision in life. Salvation is a journey. In chapter four, Yates shares the four keys to the journey:

Believe

Receive

Repent

Forgive

Yates spends time describing this journey as different steps while on Earth. At the beginning of the book, I personally thought this book would be exclusively about heaven. However, as I continued to read, I discovered that Yates planned to spend more time about the coming to Christ and growing in Christ. He spends more time describing the process of discipleship.

For example, in chapter eight, entitled “Additional Thoughts,” Yates shares about water baptism, holy communion, the difference between true Christianity and “Churchanity,” and Jesus as the true substitute. In chapter nine, Yates offers the reader the opportunity to believe, receive, repent, and receive forgiveness. He gives a prayer in chapter ten for the reader to recite to confirm that decision. In chapter eleven, Yates provides his answers to a set of questions which are common to every person who makes the decision to follow Jesus Christ.

“Will I feel different after I decide to follow Jesus Christ?”

“Is it possible to lose my salvation?”

“What about doubts and anger?”

“Will I now be immune to problems?”

In chapter twelve, Yates shares about the dangers of sin, Satan, the power of prayer and the importance of reading God’s Word, faith, fellowship, and giving. love, humility, and sharing the Gospel.

Along the way, Yates share some great thoughts:

The Bible

I read somewhere that we could look at the Bible in this way: “Genesis through Malachi: Jesus is coming; The Four Gospels: Jesus has come; Acts through Revelation: Jesus is coming again.” (10)

Faith and Hope

“Hope is the ability to hear the music of the future; Faith is the courage to dance to it today.” (53)

While the book is comprehensive in its attempt to share about the journey of faith, it is not exhaustive. Yates admits this at the end when he states:

Suffice it to say that everything will be completely clear once we reach heaven. Until then the journey is incredible, and we have enough to keep us joyfully busy.

For new Christians who need a comprehensive understanding of salvation and how to grow in Christ, this book will be a great primer.
