Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:5 (HCSB)
I watched the Eurovision Song Contest with my family this past Saturday. We connected the laptop to the TV and watched it through a live stream on the Internet. As usual, it was a silly, campy affair. Typical stuff for this show. Personally, I was rooting for Engelbert Humperdinck, with his song for the United Kingdom “Love Will Set You Free.” Well, he came in next to last place. So I am not good at picking Eurovision winners. Which may explain a little of the sadness I felt after the contest. My kids chose the winner (Sweden), my wife chose the runner up (Serbia). In hindsight, I should have picked the Russian grandmas. They at least know how to party. Then I watched on Euronews that some people really go through Post Eurovision Depression (PED). Frankly, I thought it was crazy, but then I discovered a PED support group Facebook page for people who have this “condition.” So a better solution would be to trust in God and His provision for my depression. What “The Hump” would sing in his song about a woman in love, I would say the same about God. God’s love will set you free from whatever gets you down.
