Chameleon Preaching

Chameleon Preaching

Chameleon Preaching is a simple thought Lectionary reflection from 1 Corinthians 9:16-23 on the need for preaching that people may engage in.

1 Corinthians 9:16-23

A chameleon is an animal who changes its color depending upon its environment. It changes its color to blend in with its surroundings and to prevent predators from eating them.

Paul describes here about the need for chameleon preaching. He says that he has learned the need to preach the gospel. He preaches free of charge to reach those who would be concerned about paying (9:18). He preaches as a slave to win more people (9:19). He preaches to Jews to win Jews (9:20), to Gentiles (9:21), to the weak (9:22), and to everyone in different ways (9:22). His methods change depending on the kinds of people whom he is reaching. Paul preaches like a chameleon so that everyone can receive the benefits of the gospel.

Prayer: God, help me so that I may learn how to preach to different groups of people who need the Gospel.
