Burning Bibles

Burning Bibles October 15, 2009

It’s a little over two weeks until Halloween and Samhain, and the silly season is in full swing.

A group has announced their plans to burn Bibles on Halloween. Who could be behind such a thing: Satanists? Atheists? No, it’s the members of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina. All 14 of them.

It seems this group considers the King James Version to be “God’s Word” and all other translations to be “Satan’s bibles.” They’re also going burn books by heretics like Billy Graham, Rick Warren, James Dobson, and Mother Theresa.

Here’s a link to a piece by the Associated Press, and a slightly longer one by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

  • Do the fourteen members of the Amazingly Stupid Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina, consider all previous versions of the Bible to be "Satan's versions"?

    Just asking. . . 🙂

I can understand James Dobson, but if they think that Mother Theresa is evil I hate to see what their standard is for love, caring, and compassion.

There would not seem to be that many people who would be able to live up to that ideal.

Nothing like a good old book burning to get people all worked up about something.
