Like many of us, I learned Tarot for divination. I’ve experimented with some other systems, but I mainly use Tarot because I get good results from it. But in addition to divination, I’ve also learned to use Tarot as a focus for magical workings.

Wherever you are in life, there are cards that can represent you and your situation. They can represent your goals, your dreams, your plans, and your methods. These cards can be used as a focus for visualization, energy work and other magical operations. You can use just the cards and your own will, or you can incorporate them into a larger working with candles and stones and herbs, with invocations and offerings, or with whatever else you use in your magical practice.

I learned Tarot for divination. But over the years, I’ve come to use it more and more for spellcasting. And the more I use it, the better results I get.

Now I’m happy to introduce the twelfth online class from Under the Ancient Oaks, Tarot for Spellcasting. It starts January 29 and runs for four weeks. I hope you’ll join me.

The Modules

0. Introduction (free)
1. Foundations: Magic and the Tarot
2. Meditation and Visualization
3. Designing a Tarot Spell
4. Effective Tarot Spells

There will be a video Q&A after Module 4.

Class Logistics

As with all UTAO courses, Tarot For Spellcasting will be on-demand. Video classes will be released once a week – do them on your own schedule.

Module 0 – the syllabus module – is available now. Module 1 will go up January 29, and a new module every week after that for four weeks.

K.D. Echols has once again graciously agreed to provide written transcripts for those with hearing difficulties, and for those who like to read as well as listen.

Homework

There will be weekly homework. You’ve got to practice if you want to learn this.

Also, in each of the four modules, I’m going to recommend some long-term practices –things I’m going to encourage you to start doing and keep doing even after the class is finished. These are things that will be helpful in your spiritual growth, in your growth as a Tarot reader and in your growth as a witch or other magic user.

Who should take this class?

This class is intended for Pagans and witches and other people who have a magical worldview, but anyone with an open mind is welcome.

A basic familiarity with Tarot is a plus, but it’s not required. You don’t have to be a highly skilled Tarot reader to get something out of this class. It helps to be familiar with the cards, but there are many ways to get familiar with the cards. Working with them in magical operations is one of them.

Also, no second sight is required! I still see people who insist that if you weren’t born with The GiftTM you can’t read Tarot. That’s simply not true. Almost anyone can learn to read Tarot and read it well. Likewise, almost anyone can learn to use Tarot for spellcasting.

Tarot Decks

I mainly teach from three decks. The Robin Wood Tarot was my first deck over 30 years ago. I still get great results from it. I use Waite-Smith sometimes. I’ve been using Celtic Tarot a lot since it came out a few years ago.

When I taught the Tarot for Divination class, I said that you have to have one of these three decks for this class. For this class, I think you can use any deck you like. That said, I recommend you use a deck based on the Waite-Smith system.

Costs and Registration

Registration is open now. Send me an e-mail or use the contact form on the Under the Ancient Oaks website and tell me you want to sign up. I’ll send you a PayPal invoice. Once you pay it, I’ll register you for the class. Most times this will be done within 24 hours, but if you catch me while I’m occupied it may take longer.

The cost is $50 for the entire course.

A limited number of scholarships are available for those experiencing financial difficulties. If you’d like to apply for a scholarship, just ask. I’ll take applications until January 24, and I’ll hold all applications until then. I’ll notify everyone of their application status by January 26.

If you’re in good financial shape, I hope you’ll consider sponsoring a scholarship. Each sponsorship fully funds one scholarship student, and it also counts toward the paid registrations that determine how many scholarships I can fund.
