In his most recent sermon, my dear friend Pastor Bob talked about John 2:1-11, wherein Jesus changes water into wine. For whatever it’s worth (and it’s certainly not worth what Pastor Bob had to say about it), below is a little something I once wrote about John 2:1-11. It’s an excerpt from my book, I’m Okay, You’re Not: The Message We’re Sending Nonbelievers, And Why We Should Stop, a book I wrote in 2006 about the relationship between Christians and... Read more

Below are some reader comments (or excerpts from them) written in response to my post From a Christian Woman Who Chose Abortion that I felt particularly helpful. (If your comment doesn’t appear here, it does not mean that I judged it less worthy; it only means that, for whatever reason, it didn’t as readily lift from its context. There were very few reader responses that in spirit don’t belong with these.) Thank you to every single person who took the... Read more

Husbands: As you know, arguing is a humologargantuamegamondo part of being married. The main thing to bear in mind about an argument with your wife is that you never, ever want to lose one. Losing an argument makes you look stupid. Besides, would you ever even get into any argument with your wife if you didn’t know, going in, that were 100% right about whatever it was you were arguing about? Of course you wouldn’t. You’re not stupid. (more…) Read more

In 2011 I did an lot of writing about the relationship between LGBTQ folk and Christianity. I wish I hadn’t; I wish it weren’t an issue at all. But it is. So I wrote what I did. Below are links to twelves such pieces I wrote in 2011. Each is followed by a quote from the piece itself—even though, as I think we’ll all agree, quoting yourself is reasonably frowned upon by sane people everywhere. But, you know. Sanity. Pfffft.... Read more

This relates to my post earlier today. In the comments to that post people brought up some great points about how, after all, we must be fair to Cardinal George. I agree; I am never not for being fair to anyone. (And I hadn’t been unfair to the Cardinal in my post, insofar as in it I never mentioned my personal feelings at all.) Like I think most people do, I have a great deal of respect for Catholicism.  Of... Read more
