Over at CatholicVote, in a post called “ISIS and the End Times,” I offer some excerpts from, and a link to, “What ISIS Really Wants,” a meaty, substantive piece from The Atlantic on the theology and goals of the Islamic State militants.
Click here for my post, but The Atlantic article is an example of what the media can do, if it’s brave and thorough. Contributing editor Graeme Wood takes a detailed, comprehensive look at how ISIS fits into Islamic history and beliefs, and why it’s not only dangerous for the West but for Muslims in general — and what it will take to defeat it.
With so many news outlets acting as apologists for radical Islam — for reasons that are hard to fathom, other than many in the media loathe Christianity, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend — cogent examinations like this are becomingly increasingly hard to find outside of niche outlets or books.
It’s heartening to see this in in a mainstream publication like The Atlantic, and I pray it inspires more of the same.
