Before another week begins. Can we stop for a moment on Friday?
The scribe asks Jesus: “Which is the first of all the commandments?”
The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
The second is this: You shall love your neightbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these?
And here we are. Want to ask Our Lord “What to do?” Here’s the answer! To be one with Him, to go out to all the world with His eyes, with His love. There’s no escaping the call to unity with the Trinity and service and evangelization in Him and through Him if we are truly to be Christian.
And from the psalm Friday:
If only my people would hear me,
And Israel walk in my ways,
I would feed them with the best of wheat,
And with honey from the rock I would fill them.
Give us this day our daily bread and we will have everything we need to pick up our cross. With all its blood and pain. We do all of it willingly, because Christ did. Because we have everything with and in Him.
He is One and there is no other than he. And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
