Pope Benedict XVI is tweeting today.

After a blitz of papal messages on December 12, the day he launched his Twitter account, he seemed to have gotten busy with other things—writing encyclicals, receiving visiting heads of state and Catholic Action youth delegates, addressing the Roman Curia.

Today, though, he is speaking to us, his 1,268,292 Twitter followers.  Using the new social media, he condenses Truth into 140 characters or less.  His messages for the day:

At the end of the year, we pray that the Church, despite her shortcomings, may be increasingly recognizable as Christ’s dwelling place.

We do not possess the truth; the truth possesses us.  Christ, who is the truth, takes us by the hand.

When you deny God, you deny human dignity.  Whoever defends God is defending the human person.
