A sad story today from the Archdiocese of Detroit:  Joseph Peter Sturza, who worked as director of admissions at Austin Catholic Academy in Ray Township as well as serving as a youth minister at St. Isidore Catholic parish in Macomb Township, has been arrested for child sexual abusive activity. Sturza apparently was popular with his neighbors, who described him as “a great guy” who was “always willing to help.”  He also had earned the trust of parents, and some on-line comments insist... Read more

Carrountoohil, the central peak of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks range, stands 1,038 feet high and is Ireland’s tallest mountain peak.   For almost 40 years, a five-metre (16 foot) steel cross  has been a familiar landmark atop Carrountoohil.  It took more than 100 men to erect the heavy cross, which was brought to the mountaintop in several pieces, then assembled on site.  RTÉ,RTE, Ireland’s national broadcast network, filmed the installation of the cross live in 1976. NOVEMBER 21 MEMORIAL OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Where in the Bible do we learn that the Virgin Mary’s parents were named Anna and Joachim? Can’t figure out what chapter and verse it is?  That’s because it’s not really in the Bible.  Saint Anna and Saint Joachim (sometimes spelled “Ioacim”) show up in a separate book called the Protoevangelium of James or, more simply, the Gospel of James. Not one of the canonical gospels, the Gospel of James is considered apocryphal—not part of the... Read more

Speaking about the liturgy, Murray tells The Guardian reporter Catherine Shoard: “…I tend to disagree with what they call the new mass. I think we lost something by losing the Latin. Now if you go to a Catholic mass even just in Harlem... Read more
