Rosetta Mission Accomplished! 2014-11-16T14:40:57-07:00

Yesterday, the European Space Agency (ESA) accomplished a first in space exploration with its Rosetta Mission. Its spacecraft called “Rosetta” began its journey ten years ago It had flown 4 billion miles through space to come alongside a comet named “67 P/C-G” that is about three miles in diameter and flying in its orbit around the sun at a maximum speed of 84,000 miles per hour. Rosetta then released a probe called “Philae” that descended seven hours until it successfully landed on the comet. Philae is the size of a washing machine that has three legs. It substantially bounced twice before settling down on the comet. Then Philae secured itself to the comet by shooting harpoons into its surface. The ESA said the Philae probe is now “stable” on the comet. Philae will conduct tests of the comet, and this information will be radioed back to ESA facilities on earth. Its primary purpose is to provide information about the origin of the universe.

The National Aeronautics Space Agency (NASA) of the USA is aiding American, commercial, space corporations to soon do similar missions with asteroids flying about in space. One goal is to eventually mine asteroids for precious metal ores and transport this material to earth. Space exploration is progressing right along. I think it is fascinating. Humans spent much of the past five centuries exploring the New World here on earth. Now we are exploring the space frontier. (See my recent post on meeting and having a long talk about space with Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.)

In my STILL HERE series on Bible prophecy, I sometimes will be writing about space exploration and how the Bible has some things to say about it. The first two books of this series are published, and I plan for the series to consist of ten books. Most of these manuscripts have been in progress for several years. I expect Book Three to be finished later next year. I got delayed due to undertaking an unexpected writing project. I just finished a book manuscript that is not in this series. It is a development of my post on this blog on November 1, 2013, that is entitled “Peter’s Kingdom Keys Explain Spirit Baptism.” Stay tuned.
