Trump’s Constant Deflection Is the Oldest Trick in the Good Book

U.S. President Donald Trump constantly deflects in order to distract when he is being confronted with his questionable behavior. It is the oldest trick recorded in the Bible.

When Adam and Eve took fruit from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden and ate it, their lives forever changed. They now felt ashamed and hid from God. According to the Bible, it was man’s first sin, often called “original sin.”

They did that against God’s will. Eve had been deceived by “the serpent,” who somehow represented Satan. For the Bible’s last book, Revelation, says, “The great dragon was throw down [to the earth], that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world” (Revelation 12.9 NRSV).

I believe Genesis 3 tells about an angel, representing God, who came walking in the garden to confront Adam and Eve about their sin. God thereby asked Adam, “‘Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’ The man said, ‘The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.’ Then the LORD God said to the woman, ‘What is this that you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent tricked me, and I ate'” (Genesis 3.11-13).So, both Adam Eve deflected away from their sin by accusing someone else of wrongdoing.

That’s what Donald Trump does often–deflect. And he is doing it increasingly more as evidence mounts against him for alleged wrongdoing as president. Yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officially announced that an impeachment investigation into the president’s alleged misbehavior had begun. It follows closely upon Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress about his two-year investigation into the president and Russian meddling in our electoral system. Now the president may be in even deeper trouble due to his asking the Ukraine president to investigate past activities of Joe Biden’s son in Ukraine in order to political dirt on Joe, since he so far appears to be the Democrat who will try to remove Donald Trump from the White come November’s election next year.
