Will Trump Burn the House Down?

Will Trump Burn the House Down? November 12, 2020

Barbara Res, a construction executive for the Trump Organization who led the building of Trump Tower, says in a new book that Republican President Donald Trump will do everything possible to win, and if not, “he will burn the house down.” It’s in her new book, Tower of Lies: What My Eighteen Years Working with Donald Trump Reveals about Him, published just three weeks ago.

Res said in a recent interview that President Trump will “do anything” to overturn that Democrat Joe Biden won the presidential election last week. Affirming Mary Trump’s observations in her book about her Uncle Donald Trump–Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man–Ms. Res say Mr. Trump “can’t deal with losing. The notion of being a loser is something that he couldn’t possibly conceive or believe.”

Ms. Res also wrote in a recent op-ed for The Guardian, saying of Mr. Trump after losing the election, “All he’s got now is breaking stuff, and he’s going to do that with a vengeance.”

What is most worrisome to me about this viewpoint is that, even though Trump is now a lame-duck president, with seventy days left until he must vacate the White House, on Monday he fired his Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper. Why? That is a 64,000 dollar question. Not only that, President Trump since then has placed three men in the Pentagon who talk his language about foreign policy and a lot more. Trump has also inserted Christopher Miller as his acting Secretary of Defense. Miller’s experience has been in counterterrorism.

A lot of former Pentagon and CIA people are right now expressing their puzzling dismay at these recent Trump moves. Some are suggesting that President Trump may intend to order an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. You may recall that President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, which just recently became effective. It is called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and the participants in it were the U.S., UK,, France, Germany, the EU, China, and Russia. Trump had always argued that it had been a bad deal economically for the U.S.

But all the other participants in the agreement were against the U.S. pulling out. They all said, correctly, that the U.S. reneging on the agreement would cause Iran to return to producing weapon-grade uranium. Experts now say that Iran has done this and now has enough of this material to quickly produce two nuclear bombs or warheads.

Due to this development, some experts surmise that President Trump’s moves this week regarding U.S. military forces may indicate that he is planning to militarily attack Iran to destroy its nuclear facilities, many of which clearly are for peaceful purposes. Some also suggest that Trump may be doing this in concert with Israel. If such an attack Iran occurred in the waning days of Trump’s presidency, could it affect his leaving or not leaving the White House come January 20th next year? Of course, it could depend somewhat on Iran’s response. It is believed that Iran is looking forward to Biden becoming the U.S. president since he has said he will immediately return the U.S. as a signatory in the Iran nuclear agreement and that it believes Biden will be much fairer as U.S. president in his treatment of Iran.

If Trump does this, it may be what Barbara Res says–“he will burn the house down.” In the meantime, where are the lame Republican Congressmen who are remaining silent? No more Barry Goldwaters on The Hill. (I live in Arizona.)
