Israel May Yet Export Natural Gas to Europe

I sometimes write about Israel because it occupies a most prominent place in Bible prophecy, which I write books about (see kermitzarley.com). Also, Christians and Jews have so much in common even though they have such a strained and somewhat deplorable history in their relationship due to anti-Semitism. One issue that I’ve written about is the very abundant, undersea oil and natural gas deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea that belong to Israel. In fact, I was a shareholder in Noble Energy, before Chevron bought it, because they discovered and developed these Israeli fields. I expected that Israel would soon be selling oil and perhaps LNG (liquid natural gas) to Europe. Since that wasn’t happening, largely because of European nations were opposing Israel for its alleged mistreatment of Palestinians, I sold my Noble stock.

Yesterday, President Tayyip Erdogen of Turkey, who was in Kyiv, Ukraine, announced with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky a renewed relationship between the two countries. Part of their agreement involves Turkey supplying Ukraine with drones for surveillance of Russian forces now amassed on Ukraine’s borders as if to invade. Erdogen also offered that Turkey, which has positive relations with Russia, would mediate talks between Ukraine and Russia. See my Ukraine Crisis Update, in which I relate that Germany offered to send Ukraine 5,000 helmets, to which Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, said, “What support are they going to send next? Pillows?”

Today, as Erdogen was flying back to Turkey, he told onboard news reporters that Turkey and Israel have improved their relations as well and that Israel could export oil, and perhaps LNG, to Turkey and through Turkey to European nations such as Germany. As NATO, the U.S. and its allies have been negotiating a response to Russia’s 120,000 troops on the Ukraine border, Germany has been just about the only European Union and NATO member that has not been supportive of aiding Ukraine, which is still not a NATO member. Erdogen admitted that Turkey had been somewhat anti-Israel due to its mistreatment of Palestinians.

This German reticence to aid Ukraine is largely because Germany made a decision years ago to depend on Russian import of natural gas which Germany needs quite badly. But with this revelation by Erdogen about Israeli petroleum products being made available to Europe, especially Germany, that could drastically lessen Russia’s seeming leverage over Germany and therefore cause it to support Ukraine.

How ironic it would be if Israel comes to the aid of Germany, which was responsible for the dreadful Nazi Holocaust of WWII!
