My New Book Is Soon To Be Published
My eleventh book is about to be published. It’s publishing date is August 3rd. It is my first book about golf. And it probably will be my only one. For those who may not know, I am a retired pro golfer with the PGA Tour. I played full time there and its Senior/Champions Tour thirty years. The book will be available at amazon.com with all of my other books. It will be the first book ever written about this modern Christian movement, and it will commemorate its 60th anniversary. My daughter Christy always makes the covers of my books. What do you think of it and the title?
The Movement’s Center: “PGA Tour Bible Study”
This book is entitled Christ on the PGA Tour (1965-1982). It is only about the early years of the modern Christian movement on the regular PGA Tour, when I was there. It begins with the founding of the “Tour Bible Study” in 1965. I co-founded it with my close pro friend on Tour, Babe Hiskey. His brother, Jim Hiskey, imparted the idea to us. Jim became kind of an overseer of the work. He was on the staff of The Fellowship in Washington, D.C. It ministers especially to members of Congress and is the founder of the National Prayer Breakfast (formerly Presidential Prayer Breakfast).
The PGA Tour Bible Study has always met weekly at Tour tournaments for prayer, Bible study, and fellowship. It is an evangelical group since many of its members share their faith with others. These meetings have always been open to pros and their wives irrespective of religious affiliation. The group has made the Bible its central focus and thus that is the reason for its name. They believe in the risen Jesus of Nazareth as Savior and Lord of their lives.
#1 Pro Scottie Scheffler Is a Member
This fellowship has grown through the years. And many of its members have been very successful players on the PGA Tour. For instance, Scottie Scheffler is a prominent member of this group. He just won his fifth major golf championship last week by winning The (British) Open and is in his third year as the #1 pro golfer in the world.
The Group Has Been Like Jesus’ Mustard Parable
This group on the PGA Tour has influenced other pro golf tours, such as Champions Tour, LPGA Tour, and in amateur golf. Thus, this spiritual movement reminds me of Jesus’ parable wherein he said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree” (Matthew 13:31-32 NRSV).
