Trump Says Biden Is “Against the Bible” and “Against God”

President Donald Trump was interviewed yesterday by Fox News correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera in which Trump twice said Joe Biden–his presumed Democratic opponent in the upcoming November presidential election–is “against the Bible.”

Trump said specifically, referring to himself, “One of the polls said Trump is leading by one in Texas. Okay, I’m in favor of oil and gas. I’m in favor of the Bible. I’m in favor of the Second Amendment. Right? Biden is against all of those things. He’s against oil. He’s against the Bible, essentially against religion. But against the Bible, and he’s against the Second Amendment.”

Rivera pushed back, saying, “That may be a little harsh, him being against the Bible.

Trump replied, “Well, the people that control him totally are. I mean, it may be a little harsh for him, but he’s going to have no control.”

Weeks ago, President Trump had protestors against racial injustice and police brutality removed from Lafayette Square near the White House and then marched through the park to appear before St. John’s Church for a photo-op in which he held up a Bible. The incident was highly criticized for both the mistreatment of protestors and misuse of the Bible.

Trump’s unstated purpose for holding up the Bible in front of the church seemed to have been a declaration that he is a Bible man. But that is something that many people claim was a hypocrisy in light of Trump’s entire unethical, if not immoral, lifestyle. For example, fact checkers claim that Trump, during his 3.5-year presidency, has outright lied or made misleading statements over 20,000 times.

Soon after the Rivera interview yesterday, President Trump spoke publicly about his upcoming trip to Ohio to promote economic recovery. He then expounded on his political opponent, Mr. Biden, by saying, “He’s following the radical left agenda. Take away your guns, destroy your 2nd Amendment, no religion, no anything, hurt the Bible, hurt God. He’s against God.”

I don’t think so. Throughout Joe Biden’s lengthy political career, he has constantly spoken out about being a Roman Catholic. Furthermore, Joe Biden was the nation’s first Catholic vice president. When Pope Francis visited the U.S. in 2015, Vice President Joe Biden was there to greet him. And Mr. Biden accompanied the pope throughout his rounds on Capitol Hill, the White House, and a church mass.

The Biden political campaign immediately responded to this latest Trump accusation against Biden by saying of his religious faith, “Joe Biden’s faith is at the core of who he is.” Biden himself also replied that his Catholic faith is the “bedrock foundation of my life.”

However, Biden, like Catholic Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has disagreed with his church by being for legal access to abortion. For this reason, Biden has been banned from speaking publicly at Catholic schools in the U.S. Abortion has been a big point of contention between Joe Biden and many Christians, thus not just Catholic.

But as for Biden and Pelosi regarding their religious faith, they have been expressing it for decades whereas Trump, despite whether or not he is sincere, seems to be late to the party with his, which suggests he has been exploiting religious folks politically. But they retort that he has been giving them what they want–appointing nearly 200 conservative judges, with two of of them on the Supreme Court who oppose abortion.
