Thirty-year old Wyndham Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, shot a course record 12-under par 60 today at Pebble Beach Golf Links near Carmel, California, to take a one stroke lead into the final round at the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. That is an amazing round of golf on my favorite golf course in the world. Clark started by overpowering the golf course with eagles on the 2nd and 6th holes and five consecutive birdies. He actually had a bogey during the round–on the par three 12 hole. And he came close to making birdie on the 15th through 17th holes before missing an eagle putt on the 18th for a possible 59.

Wyndham Clark has turned out to be a late bloomer who had the talent but was troubled with his emotions until he got some help from a psychologist and perhaps his God. Clark is a professing Christian who shares his feelings about his struggles with his temper.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is more rain and wind that could cancel play and end the tournament. If that happens, Clark would be thrust into the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour for third time in his pro golfing career. But if the field survives the elements tomorrow, and Wyndham Clark plays golf like he did today, it looks like the rest of the pros in this hunt nestled alongside Big Blue will be jostling for second place.
